Tania Castillo-Pelayo

INTERN ARCHITECT

AIBC

Tania’s career started in Microbiology working with plants and people. With seven years of experience in research and healthcare at the BC Cancer Deeley Research Centre in Victoria, she was captivated by the positive impact the built environment had on patients’ health outcomes.

Combining her passion for science, design and technology led her to pursue a Master of Architecture degree at the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL). Upon graduating, she started working on architectural projects across Vancouver Island and has been privileged to work in projects for the University of Victoria, the BC Ministry of Health, PHSA, and BC Cancer’s Vancouver Island Centre.

Her approach to design is driven by inclusion, diversity and environmental sustainability, and she recently completed the Rick Hansen Foundation Certification to improve accessibility for all. She enjoys collaborating with multiple stakeholders and user groups to translate their vision into the built environment. She understands the importance of strategic project management, active listening, and camaraderie to achieve creative and adaptable solutions for clients.

She is a self-described music nerd who deeply appreciates the role of sound in architecture and spaces with amazing acoustics. In her off time, she enjoys making glitch art and 3D models using parametric design tools and has volunteered as a graphic designer for local organizations and TEDx.
