A legacy building, the Couvelier Pavilion is the cornerstone of the non-profit Horticulture Centre of the Pacific. Named after the Centre's original visionary, and former Saanich Mayor, Mel Couvelier, the structure replaces the former glass house and wedding pavilion that was lost to fire in February 2011. Working within a tight budget of the community raised contributions through a grassroots fundraising effort, the new pavilion offers a modern timber frame enclosure with catering facilities, state-of-the-art visual and conferencing technology, and seamless connectivity to the surrounding gardens.
